As a member of the newly formed Chicago branch of the National Cartoonists Society, I had the pleasure of meeting Jack Cole when he was invited to join our group. He was a lovely guy who was enjoying great success with his new syndicated comic strip, "Betsy and Me". He was apparently happy to be part of the group and seemed to be having a wonderful time. Days later we were shocked to learn of his suicide.
