Bio Summary

Richard M. Sherman was born in 1928 to Rosa and Al Sherman (Al was an American Tin Pan Alley songwriter). His family moved often for seven years. In 1937, the Shermans finally sattled down in Beverly Hills, California. Richard Sherman studied flute, piccolo, piano, and other instruments at Beverly Hills high school. After he graduated from Beverly Hills high school, he went to Bard college majoring in music. He wrote many sonatas and “art songs.” He wanted to write the “Great American Sympony” which influenced him to write songs.

1964: Wrote “It’s A Small World” for New York World’s Fair.
1965: Won 2 Academy Awards for “Mary Poppins,” 9 Academy Award nominations, 2 Grammy Awards, 4 Grammy Award nominations and an 23 gold and platinum albums. Sherman brothers worked for Walt Disney untill 1966.
1968: Sherman brothers worked on a motion picture “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.”
1973: First Prize at the Moscow Film Festival for Tom Sawyer.
1976: “The Slipper and the Rose” was chosen as the Royal Command Performance.
The Sherman brothers worked on many fims including, The Jungle Book (1967), The Aristocats (1970), The Parent Trap (1961), The Parent Trap (1998), Charlotte's Web (1973) , The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977), Snoopy Come Home (1972), Bedknobs And Broomsticks (1971), and Little Nemo: Adventures In Slumberland (1992).
2000: Sherman Brothers wrote the song score for “The Tigger Movie.”
2002: “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” premiered at the London Palladium.
2003: Sherman Brothers ranked in “Top 10 Favorite Children's Films of All Time.” 2003: Nominated for “Laurence Olivier Theatre Award” for Best New Musical.
2004: “Mary Poppins” on stage.
2005: “Mary Poppins” nominated for nine Olivier Awards.
2005: “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” went to Broadway and was nominated for 9 Tonys. It also began its nation wide tour.
2005: Sherman was inducted into the Songwriters' Hall of Fame.
2006: Began preproduction on the film project “Inkas the Ramferinkas.”

Robert M. Sherman was born in 1925 to Rosa and Al Sherman (Al was an American Tin Pan Alley songwriter). Robert Sherman took lessons in violin and piano, painting and writing poetry as young. During his high school years at Beverly Hills high school, he wrote and produced radio and stage programs. He wrote a stage play entitled, “Armistice and Dedication Day” at age 16. Robert Sherman joined the army at age 17 with the permission from his parents. In 1945, Robert Sherman was shot in the knee. After he returned to United States from England, he attended Bard College, New York, majored in English Literature and Painting. At Bard college, he completed his first two novels, “The Best Estate and Music” and “Candy and Painted Eggs.” Within two years after he graduated from Bard college, Robert and his brother Richard started writing songs.

Robert B. Sherman married Joyce Ruth (Sasner) Sherman on September 27, 1953. Joyce and Robert had four children: Laurie, Jeff, Tracy and Robbie. (Joyce Sherman died on October 16, 2001).
