His unique voice gained him work in the commerical business as Tony the Tiger and for several different roles under Disney: both in movies and as the voice of many of Disney’s rides and attractions.


Early Life/Family

Thrul Ravencroft began life in Norfolk, Nebraska. He served his county by being a navigator in WWII as an Airtransport Command. Soon after he begin searching for his carreer by setttling down in Hollywood.

Education/Training

He started gaining influence through a band called “The Mellomen,” popular the Big Band Era, as a background singer before finding work in Disney.

Career Outline

Ravenscroft’s work is an incredibaly long list of famous works. He was Tony the Tiger, yelling, “Grrrreeeattt!” at any moment for his fans for over 50 years.
He is the voice of many well-known Disney attractions such as: The Disneyland’s River Boat as the First Mate, serveral voices of the “Tiki Room” as the parrot, a bass in “It’s a Small World” and in the Haunted Mansion as the lead vocalist of the “Grim Grinning Ghosts.” You can see him as a bust, from the neck up, singing happily!
He worked with Chuck Jones in “How the Grinch stole Chirstmas.” It’s impossible to know of a child that hasn’t watched the Grinch slide along the floor stealing presents, singing along to the song “You’re a Mean on Mr.Grinch” which is composed entirely of Ravenscroft’s bass voice.
