Education/Training

Career Outline

After the closing of the Warner Brothers animation studios in the early 1960’s, David H. DePatie’s career in the Cartoon Industry really took Course. Previously, he was one of the final Exective Produces over at Warner Bros. Along with Warner Bros. animator, Friz Freleng, he created DePatie- Freleng Enterprises, opening the door to characters and projects such as The Pink Panther. The Studio was set out in Hollywood and was an animated production company. They produced theatrical cartoons for studios such as United Artists as well as animated series, title sequences and commercials. After the success of the Pink Panther movie, many more animation opportunities came to be such as the Dr. Seuss stories, The Lorax, and The Cat in the Hat, for CBS and various Satuday Morning Cartoons including, G.I. Joe: a Real American Hero and Spiderman and his Amazing Friends. On his last noted project, DePatie worked on, The Pink Panther in: Pink at First Sight, which was pursued without Friz Freleng. The studio was sold to Marvel Comics in 1981. Freleng went back to Warners while DePatie became the head of Marvel Productions. Through the years of DFE ( DePatie- Freleng Enterprises), DePatie helped to produce numerous projects and create characters that are still remembered and seen today.

Comments On Style

Seeing how DePatie was a Producer, he had no true style, but he did have an eye and wonderful input on characters and projects that would become timeless.

Influences

Personality

Little is known about DePatie’s personality. Though, since most of his biographies discuss his projects and looking at the success of his projects, one may suggest that he was a hard worker and well as a determined individual with clear vision.

Anecdotes
